Far from family and so close to death
Who knows what was going through the German soldier’s mind when he looked at the family photographs with portraits of his wife and two small children. But the war was killing humanity and compassion. As a member of the 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division, Prinz Eugen fought against the partisans in Yugoslavia and participated in massacres against the civilian population. At the Nuremberg Trials, the Waffen-SS units were declared a criminal organization for the wartime atrocities they committed.
